Twinkle's Weblog - Part Two

TWINKLE’S BLOG

Diary of a rescue cat.

January 2004

2 January

Hooray! I managed to rip up the hard material around the doorway last night. They called it lino I think.  Now I can get at the carpet underneath and that’s much easier to try and make holes in!

I played with the largest child today. The she threw the Cleo Mouse for me and we played with one of the man’s shoe laces. I don’t think he was too impressed with the shredded state of it when we had finished but it was jolly good fun.

Later on, when the man and the children were all out, I came out and sat on the second from top step, watching and listening for quite a long time.

I had a bit of a run in with Big Cat this morning. He jumped into my wardrobe rather unexpectedly. I hissed and lashed out at him, then we chased around the room a couple of times before I ran into the second wardrobe. We had a bit of a boxing match through the door before he ran off down the stairs.

After that it was a fairly quiet day today so I jumped up onto the window ledge to get my first look at outside.

When the people all came back Big Cat came upstairs, using them as cover. We had a little disagreement, I think he’s still sulking about this mornings scrap.

I played with the Cleo Mouse again today. Its quite fun with its little jingly bell – not at all scary like I first thought.

Huh! They’ve put a new piece of lino down. It’s twice a big as before and twice as securely fastened down.  It will need a lot more work to burrow through that than the last piece.

The lady’s noisy friend who came to the cat shelter was here again today. She still seems a bit loud, and I can smell another cat on her.

The smallest child gave me some fuss this morning. Maybe she’s not so scary after all. She hasn’t fallen on me yet and seems fairly well meaning.

In the evening, after the children went to bed, I sat on the stairs again. This time I ventured right to the bottom and took a peak around the end of the sofa before running back upstairs.

The lady seemed unwell this evening. She came upstairs to bed by herself. I jumped up onto the bed with her and snuggled up to keep her warm – this is more like it!

Again I spent the evening sitting on the stairs and eventually ventured down into the lounge, hiding behind the sofa for a few minutes before returning up the stairs.

The larger child got a bit too close whilst playing today. I panicked a little and escaped by jumping over her arm. She seemed very excited by this.

I ventured downstairs again this evening and explored the lounge a bit more thoroughly.  Still not sure about venturing too far from my wardrobes though – Big Cat seems to spend a lot of time down there and there are lots of places for him to ambush me.

I’ve had a couple of quieter days and things are getting into more of a routine now.

I am realising that the people aren’t going to do me any harm, although sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry! This means that I don’t have to hide all the time. I have found a new spot by the radiator. It’s nice and warm but has a good field of vision and several escape routes. But I still retreat to the wardrobe when I really want to feel secure.

My relationship with Big Cat is still a bit unpredictable. Sometimes we’re fine and sometimes we get on each others nerves and have a row. I would like to play with him, as I do with the people, but he doesn’t seem to like this. This evening was a case in point. He came up the stairs and I gave him a bop on the head as he approached. We had a very loud scrap on the landing before he ran off again.  I really would like him to be my friend.

Ha! I got one over on Big Cat this morning. I leapt on him from a shelf in the wardrobe as he was walking past the door. Big surprise! A bit of spitting and howling and he ran off downstairs.  I think he’s a big wimp really!!
